Surrey/White Rock Bot Echoes National Calls To Prevent Air Canada Strike

Swift News

With Air Canada flights starting to be cancelled Thursday morning and a flight attendant strike set to start Saturday, the Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade is echoing the calls of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce to prevent such action.

With reports the national airline will cancel 500 flights by the end of day Friday (Aug. 15), which will affect thousands of travellers every day, the Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade noted that air travel is not just about moving passengers; it is a critical lifeline for businesses, supply chains, and the workforce.

"A strike during peak summer travel would slow the movement of goods domestically and internationally, disrupt tourism, and cause immediate harm to businesses already navigating economic challenges," said a release from the group. It urged both parties to reach an agreement "without delay," given the "severe impacts Canadians and the business community would face."

"While we respect the collective bargaining process and the rights of workers, the federal government must be prepared to act decisively to protect national connectivity and economic stability if a resolution cannot be reached," the release continued.
